C-Skins Winter Range Review

As the water gets that little bit colder, it's time to think about adding those extra layers to keep you warm and comfortable so that you can see out the winter until the warmer spring months come.

Winter is my favourite time of year, here on the South Coast our spots become more consistent and less crowded, the only problem is, it gets pretty cold come February. The UK water temperature varies during the winter from coast to coast and the weather itself has a massive impact on how warm you feel while in the water. The North East can be frigidly cold compared to a slightly milder Cornish corner with temperatures ranging from 6-10oC.

Here at firstmasonicdistrict, we have a wide range of wetsuits to cater for your every need, this includes different brands, styles and budgets. In this series, we will break down all the details of the wetsuits and accessories to help when it comes to staying warm.

The best thing to think about when buying a winter suit is what are you going to be using it for? Are you going to surf every day for hours, or for just a quick little dip here and there? Where are you going to surf? What type of surfing do you do? What's your budget? Do you have a brand or style preference?

Wetsuits have different size, stitching, zip and cut styles so it's important to try on a suit to see what fits you the best. firstmasonicdistrict stock the C-Skins Legend range of the 5x4mm Chest zip, 4x3mm Chest zip and the 4x3mm Back zip. The Legend is in the lower end of the pricing range but the quality is still very high. Like the Vissla and Xcel, the C-Skins range tend to be slimmer and longer in their fit.

All 3 suits in the range have Xtend neoprene through the upper body, which gives freedom through the areas of most movement around the arms and shoulders. The suits have a true thickness and are glued and blind stitched, which maintains overall warmth. The Legend 4x3mm back zip has a front and back panel to protect you from wind chill.

The Legend round toe 5mm Boot retails at €25 and are the entry level winter boot. They have a very durable sole and ankle support but do not come with a strap.

The Session split toe 5mm Boots retail at 35 and again have a very durable sole and ankle support with an ankle strap for added protection from flushing water. The added tag on the back helps with putting them on more easily.

The Legend 3mm gloves are glued and blind stitched for comfort and warmth. They are lightweight and have added resin palm print grip for extra control.

The Legend 2.5mm hood is flexible with a mesh skin and glued and blind stitched seams for added protection from wind chill. It has an adjustable seal clinch cord around your face for extra protection and comfort. The double gusset neck seal allows you to tuck it under your suit to eliminate cold water flush.
